Which upholstery fabric is right for your project?

Everyday sofas and chairs need at least 20,000 Martindale rubs, browse general domestic fabric. For pubs, offices, or rental properties, look for severe contract fabric rated 40,000+. Reupholstering something used occasionally, like a guest chair? occasional domestic fabric is a lighter duty option. Need fire safety compliance? Shop flame retardant fabric. Still not sure? A a rough guide, an armchair typically needs 6-8 metres, a two-seater sofa 10-14
metres, and a three-seater sofa 14-18 metres, but this varies by pattern
repeat and frame size. We recommend checking with your upholsterer before ordering.
The Martindale rating measures how many rubs a fabric can withstand before showing wear, indicating its durability. For domestic upholstery, look for 20,000+
rubs for heavy use or commercial settings, 40,000+ is recommended.
