Viscose is often described as a sustainable alternative to cotton or polyester and is popular in the fashion industry as a cheaper and more durable alternative to silk. Dressmaking viscose fabric is a man-made fabric that is lightweight, soft drapey fabric which hangs beautifully. These qualities make it fantastic for use not only as a dress lining but also for floaty summer dresses, skirts and blouses. As a plant-based fibre, viscose is not inherently toxic or polluting and is derived from wood pulp from fast-growing, regenerative trees such as eucalyptus, beech, and pine, as well as plants such as bamboo, soy, and sugar cane.
