To calculate curtain fabric, you will initially need 2 measurements.
1 - Width of pole or track
2 - Measurement down from pole or track to the required finished drop
Once you have these measurements we work on 2 x fullness for pencil pleat curtains and 2.5 x fullness for Pinch pleat (The amount fullness you want can be personal so do feel free to call us to discuss further - 01691 670562)
e.g. Pole 140cm x2 fullness = 280cm
We then divide this number by the widths of the fabric (shown on each listing)
e.g. 280cm ÷ 142cm = 1.97
We would then round this up to the closest number which is 2 in this case.
So this example pole of 140cm would require 2 widths of fabric.
Then take the finished drop we have measured at the started (160cm) as example
Add 20cm to this to allow for hems and sewing at the top = 180cm
If the fabric had a pattern repeat we will also need to allow for this. The simplest way to do this is called the adding on method.
The individual pattern repeat is shown on each listing if the fabric has a pattern repeat of 32cm as an example we would add an extra pattern repeat in for every additional width of fabric required.
2 widths = 1 additional pattern repeat
3 widths = 2 additional pattern repeat etc
So for our example we need 2 widths of fabric at 180cm drop and then need to add an extra 32cm for the pattern repeat - The total fabric we would require would be 3.92m (4m)
We hope this can help, but please feel free to give us a call or email to assist with your measurements as we are doing this every day and know it isn't always a one calculation fits all job depending on the project. We are always here to help - 01691 670562 or info@textileexpressfabrics.co.uk

The best way to block the light is with a blackout lining this offers a complete darkness to the room and is generally added as a 2nd layer behind the face fabric. If you are not looking to use a lining choose a tightly woven, heavier fabric such as velvet, chenille or thick cotton.
