Buying Curtain Fabric from Textile Express

Based in Oswestry, Shropshire, Textile Express has been supplying fabric to home sewers, interior designers, and made-to-measure customers since 1991. Whether you're replacing a favourite pair of curtains or starting a full room refresh, our linen curtain fabric and velvet curtain fabric collections are among our most popular. As a rough guide, curtain fabric width usually needs to be 1.5–2.5 times your track or pole width (fuller for pencil pleat and pinch pleat headings, less for eyelet), and length is measured from the track to where you want the curtain to end, plus an allowance for hems and heading (typically an extra 20cm but we may also need to allow for pattern matching). Because every window and heading style is different, we'd always recommend measuring your specific window and if needed our team is here for guidance before ordering.


Yes — fabric on this page is available through our made-to-measure curtain service. Once you've chosen a fabric, email our team for a quote, and made-to-measure curtains typically take 4–5 weeks to complete once your order is confirmed.

Yes, lining is bought separately from the main curtain fabric, and we'd always recommend it — lining helps curtains hang better, protects the outer fabric from sunlight and wear, and if you choose a thermal or blackout lining, it also improves heat retention and blocks out light. We stock a full range of curtain linings to pair with any fabric on this page, from luxury cotton sateen through to thermal blackout and interlining for extra weight and warmth. If you're not sure which lining best matches your fabric, our team is always happy to help you choose.
